Daniel Gatura is the CEO and founder of Ace Mobility, a Kenya-based startup that is focused on improving the public transport by addressing mobility challenges of the vulnerable with a focus on the differently abled, women and elderly. Daniel elaborates.

Tell us a bit about your startup

Ace Mobility is a Kenyan Mobility startup aimed at improving Public Transport for vulnerable people in the society like women, the elderly, the differently abled and now health workers. We offer them safe, reliable and hassle free mobility.

Who founded Ace Mobility and what are their professional backgrounds?

The startup was founded by Daniel Gatura. He graduated with a Bsc degree in Strategic Management. He then worked as a marketing officer in a major public transport company. Later he supplied vans to a mobility startup from where he got to understand the business more.

Who are the owners of Ace Mobility?

The business is owned by the founder and three angel investors who finance it.

What would you say are the dynamics that have shaped public transport in Kenya?

In Kenya, public transport is run on a capacity based model operated by individual investors. However, the current providers give emphasis to profits foregoing comfort, reliability and convenience to the commuters.

Why did you start Ace Mobility? What opportunities did you see?

Ensuring urban mobility for all is a major challenge. Many people who are vulnerable because of their physical condition, mental health, age or strong cultural barriers cannot move independently. The current providers of public transport do not give priority to the mobility challenges of the vulnerable. We therefore set out to improve public transport giving priority to the vulnerable.

What problem or problems does Ace Mobility solve?

We address unreliability, convenience and comfort

What can your company do that no other company can?

Reliability: We keep constant communications with the commuters.

Comfort: We use high quality buses to offer commuter solutions

Convenience: We adapt to the commuters work shifts.

We give priority to the vulnerable offering solution s that better their commute challenges.

Who forms your customer base?

Health workers, disabled and elderly.

What does Ace Mobility need in order to grow?

We need funding to help us improve on the range of products we offer the market. We also need to improve on our technology and application.

In which markets are you looking to establish your presence?

We aim to grow outside Kenya in 2 years

What are your plans for the coming 12 months?

To be serving majority of the hospitals in the country.
