Rabo Frontier Ventures has entered into a partnership with Europe’s pre-seed and seed stage Venture Capital firm Seedcamp through a commitment to their fifth (V) fund.

Seedcamp, has also announced the £78 million first and final close of its heavily oversubscribed fund to continue in its over 13 year track-record of backing Europe’s most exceptional founders.

In spite of the challenging macro climate, Seedcamp Fund V was more than 50% over-subscribed and is backed by some of the world’s leading institutions, investors and 80 of the fund’s founders. In Fund V, Seedcamp will increase the amount of capital it invests in pre-seed and seed stage companies and will reserve capital for follow-on rounds up to Series B.

Founders will continue to benefit from Seedcamp’s unparalleled global network and in-house platform of support, engineered to help companies get off the ground and to that all-important Series A.

Seedcamp Fund V is the most ambitious fund in the European seed fund’s history at £78 million

Seedcamp V is supported by over 100 institutions, later-stage Venture Capital funds and Seedcamp founders and angel investors including British Patient Capital, Legal & General, OMERS, Index Ventures, Northzone, Sequoia, Underscore VC, Taavet Hinrikus (TransferWise), Daniel Dines (UiPath), David Helgason (Unity)

Seedcamp Fund V is an equal partnership between Partners Carlos Espinal, Reshma Sohoni, Sia Houchangnia and Tom Wilson

Seedcamp Fund V is backed by 80 Seedcamp founders and mentors

Seedcamp invested in 118 pre-seed and seed stage companies in its previous Fund IV (first-closed Nov 2017) which includes fast-growing online events platform, Hopin

Seedcamp launched in 2007 and its portfolio of over 360 startups includes European decacorn, UiPath, and unicorn businesses Revolut, Transferwise and Hopin

Jeroen van Doornik, Managing Partner, Rabo Frontier Ventures: “Seedcamp is a strong brand in pre-seed and seed-stage and it’s great to partner with their latest fund, Seedcamp V. This fund will continue to focus on the same stage across Europe, building a large and diversified portfolio. I’m looking forward to work with the team and invest in some of the portfolio winners in future.”

The Seedcamp Partners: “At Seedcamp, we’ve always held firm in our belief that exceptional talent truly can come from anywhere - a belief we stand by both in how we’ve built out our own team and the founders we’ve gone on to back. When you take a chance and make the first investment into the Romanian founder who goes on to build Europe’s first cloud-based decacorn (UiPath) or the founder with health issues who creates an online events platform to drive connectivity for people who can’t be there in person - and it becomes one of the fastest growing companies in history (Hopin) - you know you’re onto something.

Fundraising, both for companies and VCs, is never easy - you have to constantly be selling and fighting your corner as to why someone should take a chance on you. Raising Fund V felt like the first time we’ve not had to fight tooth and nail to prove our legitimacy, a strange reality to be faced with in the middle of what is a hugely uncertain time across the world.

To be heavily oversubscribed and to reach a first and final close in the middle of a very challenging macro climate gives us even further conviction that Seedcamp really is the place for Europe’s entrepreneurial talent to get their start. Now the hard work begins to find them.”
